ROLE PLACEMENT & CASTING – VIRTUAL AUDITION INFORMATION:
All students must audition to be accepted into the program. On the first day, we will have role placement auditions and we will cast the show based on those auditions. We cannot promise that any one particular person will be cast in a leading role. We do, however, guarantee that every cast member will be featured and learn so much in this process. As with every Broadway Workshop program, we believe that every actor — regardless of the “size” of their part — deserves a moment to shine. This is an ensemble experience and the training of putting together a musical in a limited time is an invaluable experience for every actor who is part of our cast. In order to be part of the Summer Stage program you have to be open to all casting possibilities and handle casting with grace. We focus on challenging each student to step up to the plate with whatever role they are given. The more fun you have in the process the more you will get out of the experience of putting a full show together in only a few days!
WHAT TO EXPECT AT PERFORMANCES:
The show will be presented in “Workshop Style”. That means there will be minimal production elements. Full casts will mostly remain on stage for the entire show. There will be some simple costume and prop elements, scenic projections, and professional lighting. The goal is to present our SUMMER STAGE productions in a clean, clear manner, while still staging the show with full vocals and choreography. All scripts will be memorized. Performances will be attended by family, friends and industry guests (including NYC Casting directors and agents and managers).
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE REHEARSAL WEEK:
Throughout each day, students will rehearse the show in both the studio and theater space at Baruch Performing Arts Center learning scenes, choreography and vocals in preparation for the final presentations. SUMMER STAGE will be led by professional Directors and Choreographers who will challenge students to take the next step in their performance and rehearsal skills. Students will have some downtime while putting the show together but in general students will be engaged in creating the show most of the day.
FINANCIAL AID:
Students who qualify may submit a scholarship application for a partial or full scholarship through Project Broadway. All scholarship forms must be sent in advance of video submissions and are subject to availability and approval process. Click HERE for our scholarship form.
MORE INFO ON WORKSHOP PRODUCTIONS: Past productions that Broadway Workshop has presented in “Workshop Style” include the school versions of Beetlejuice, Between the Lines, Mean Girls, The Addams Family, Wind in the Willows, SPAMalot, Curtains, We Will Rock You, Flight of the Lawnchair Man, The Grunch, We Are Monsters, Like You Like It, Beat Bugs, Cyrano and many others! Over the past decade, thousands of students from all over the country have participated in Broadway Workshop summer programs.
